LIFE AFTER PRISON

So, the inquiring mind might want to know...what's different about my life after prison as opposed to before? Not a whole lot, actually. Except for one thing!

For fully 5 and a half years before surrendering to prison, I had a storm cloud hanging over my life. And that was the question of whether I was actually going to get locked up or simply given probation. I can't tell you what a relief it is to be done with my incarceration. It's like a weight off my shoulders.

However, that weight while significantly lighter, is not completely gone. The specter of probation looms. I'm subject to spot checks on my residence, random drug testing, and can't open a bank account or travel outside of the jurisdiction without letting the authorities know! I also can't "associate" with any convicted felons without the consent of my officer. And that might be the toughest one. My best friend in the world was the main target in the state investigation. And I can't go near her!

Fuck up a few times and your officer can "violate" you. And that means you get locked up again for your indiscretions. It happens way too often. And I ain't tryna go back!

The traveling out of the jurisdiction deal is strange. The Southern District of New York includes the following counties: Manhattan (NY county), the Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Duchess, Orange and Sullivan counties. I can travel to all of them without permission. That's a good thing because I can do my hiking without checking in with the authorities.

But get this: I can't go to Staten Island, Brooklyn or Queens! That's right. Ride two miles over a bridge and I'm out of bounds. Drive 110 miles north northwest and I'm good! I asked if I could travel 20 miles out of Sullivan county to Ulster where I want to buy a house. No problem. She only needs thirty days notice, a phone number and an address where I'll be and she'll be good. Thirty days notice!
Yikes.

Bottom line: If I had a hankering to travel in the next year, I'd be severely handicapped in that realm. And if I wanted to smoke a doob? Probably not a good idea, either. Oh well! At least beer is ok!

Anyway...with no travel...and no get high...and no association with some of my old friends, life is pretty boring. Basically, I volunteer daily, check out my investments, and write a bunch of smack on quora.com. My 15 minutes of fame from rooming with Manafort and suicide-watching Epstein are fading fast. I have a couple of things coming up but there's no deluge of interest coming from the media.

Up until the State charge 18 months ago, life was pretty good (except for that storm cloud I mentioned). I volunteered daily and periodically biked over to my co-conspirator's place to take photos of a pretty girl, go home to tweak them to perfection, send them off, and then double back for my "reward."

Pretty sweet - that is - until the State charged me with promotion of prostitution! While my Federal tax fraud charge was 100% legitimate, the State deal didn't impress me. Mostly, I took pictures for the boss and didn't profit (monetarily) from our relationship.

It occurred to me to go to trial. But when the State offered concurrent time (no extra jail beyond what I was serving at MCC), I took the felony. Going to trial would have been costly. And even with me being a penny-pinching cheapskate, the lawyers were already well north of 100k.

But I digress (as usual). With no association with anybody in the escort business...and no travel...and no job, life is a snooze. But I love my privacy and watching television without hearing some idiotic commentary courtesy of a brain-dead inmate. So I'm good to go.

  2. You should count your blessings...many of us have more demanding terms of probation...did you only do 1 year?...the way you sound, comes off as a more hardened criminal than someone that did a year..just saying

    1. Point taken. But I feel my sentence was really 7 and a half years what with all the waiting.
